The GPS system, like the popular brand Garmin, uses satellite signals to trace the path from start to finish. These device was actually developed by the Department of Defense in the United States, that can also display maps that show whole city blocks. When GPS systems released to the general public, they were installed in experimental Japanese cars. And now, most new vehicles come equipped with a GPS system in their upper end packages with mapping software that is updated via satellite and it will show you the streets wherever you are traveling accurately.

A good GPS will show you three dimension position information that includes the time, what the traffic conditions are where you are traveling, how fast you are going, whether or not there are backups, and other information the model you use may provide.

Most GPS systems that come installed in your vehicle have a price range from $350 to $1000. They include pre-loaded maps, door-to-door navigation, voice guided directions, and do not need a personal computer to function.
